  1. Nice work John!! I'm almost tempted to do a VF-74 tomcat at some point..the hard part is whether or not I want to do a fleet jet or adversary!!
  2. I'd say go VF-103..can't go wrong there and if it's ref pics you need, I can get you squared away..where do you think FT got the refs to do their decals?..lol
  3. I realize it's a bit late, but VF-102 didn't have the HUD in the pits of their F-14B's during OEF. The Sparrow/Hawk HUD for the B didn't come on line until 2003 and VF-103 was the first fleet squadron with those.
  4. Nope..pretty much went from the BRU-20 to the BRU-32 with the ADU-703 adapter.
  5. Boys..the bomb racks on those F-14's are nothing new. As a matter of fact they are the initial bomb racks used in the F-14 trials during the F-14's testing phases back in the 70's. Stealing this from an F-14 ordie who has been in the ordie biz for 30 years. He basically rips that article apart and with good reason..it's full of bogus info. "Those racks are BRU-20 Series Bomb Racks and were part of the initial equipment when the Iranians bought the F-14. While I was at NAMTRAGRUDET Oceana as an F-14 Instructor back in 93-96, we still have the racks and equipment that was left over from when
  6. I was issued an M4 on my last tour as a grunt, but we didn't have the luxury of any type of optics at that time. I didn't see those until I enlisted in the Guard and our unit had some pretty high speed equipment for a guard unit. We had brand new M4's with the ACOG sights as well as M-16A4's and our platoon leader had eotech holographic sights on his weapon. I never had an issue with M4 personally, and I alwways hated the M-16A2..especially if you fired blanks through that bastard. If so, that was hours of cleaning after training. As for the SCAR, if you've ever fired one of those bastards, t
  7. Jeffery- Ideally, what you're saying makes sense. I would have thought no white underlay on a white surface would be needed either. I learned very early in the game when I was being mentored, colors like blues, blacks, and yellows need those underlays for a reason, especially if you use Microscale as a printer. Otherwise what you have is a translucent decal that isn't exactly spot on. As for Mike's situation, I would have made the same call considering the T-Brids sheet was printed by Cartograf. I would have thought the markings would have been more opaque considering Cartograf's quaility.
  8. Oh yeah...like that version much better than the VF-84 option!
  9. Hey nice build! I saw this for sale on ebay not too long ago...did you ever sell it?
  10. Title says it all. Kit is box opened, parts sealed. $30 shipped anywhere in the US. I accept paypal only.
  11. Decals are such a finicky business. We had the same problem at VF with Medium grey on our first sheet..at that time, the better alternative was pantone 444. Of course, we didn't know that until a customer had used one of the low vis markings and said it was too light in color. So we adjusted and used 444 on all of the medium grey markings after that. You can strive and put all your effort in to releasing what you feel is a great product, but mistakes can happen. It's the nature of the biz as they say. Mike's a pretty stand up guy, so the fact he took ownership of the issue and corrected it s
  12. I can't lie..I did the same thing with a few of my VF sheets back in 06/07...got $66 for our VF-101 re-release and right at about $80 for our VX-9 sheet.
  13. Decals are a weird business. Back when I had VF going, I saw a couple of our sold out sheets hit the $80 mark on ebay. It was crazy!
  14. Nice shots Jeff! Like the one of Vic 201 launching!
  15. Steve- Actually the time frame for the markings you're using is 2004/2005. In 2003, VF-103 was switching boats from the GW to the JFK and during that time, 101 had the GW carrier name on the tails and crew names were completely different on the canopy and gear doors. I've got plenty of refs I can email you if you'd like. great work on the model though! It's pretty impressive!
  16. Agreed. A single piece gun panel for the fore and aft sections would be ideal. If you can add a little rivet detail to it, that'd be great.
  17. I have a copy of one of their F-14 sheets, and yes the art does look similiar to other manufacturers but the guy who owns Jasmine is a pretty good guy. I'm sure art was more than likely shared or re-drawn to some degree, but he's been around for a while. The only downfall to his decals is, they're a bit thick, but otherwise quite useable.
  18. I'll take any F-14 and the Pax River stuff you have.
  19. Shoot me a PM with your email. I'll send you ref pics from the cruise.
  20. You might be in the hold pattern for a while on those for 72nd. Mike is an avid 72nd scale builder, so I'm sure they'll see the light of day at some point. Here's a thought for you..a special request for a custom sheet might be worth the try if you've got the green.
  21. At that time, the Navy was downsizing airwings and going to the 1 tomcat squadron per wing, VF-74 got the boot, VF-103 stayed with CVW-17. VF-74 was then tasked with the adversary roll, and their jets were painted accordingly.
