  1. But the Mudhen can fight it#s way to the target and back on it's own, and still can carry 4x2000#, nonetheless the F-111 was ( and still is a very competend aircraft. It had the better capabilities back in vietnam, than the Tornado had until 1991. SCOUT
  2. With this loadout it would only be able to bomb the end of the runway after take off,due to fuel starvation.... SCOUT
  3. Differences F-4S from F-4J as follows: The "S" had slatted wing (except for the first couple of "S" which still flew with the standart "J" wings until retrofitted ) The slats where different from the E/F/G slats. The inner slats went a little bit forward of the wing, so there were small "teeth" visible on the inner side of the inner part of the wing. The outboard slats had a very prominent angle downwards unlike the AF's outer slats which where more straight. The wingfence on the inner side of the outer wing also was longer than the AF wingfence. On the intake trunks, there where the long D
  4. There is a pretty good pic in the book PHANTOM-Spirit in the Skys Flightpath makes them as photoetched kits in 1/72 scale http://www.djparkins.clara.net/fltpath/fpmaster.htm Greatmodels also carries them on special orders SCOUT
  5. On the F-111.net there are some pics of Col Tom Lennon preflighting Miss Liberty II for the deployment to the Gulf in 1990. It shows GBU 24's on the outboard pylons and GBU-15's on the inboard pylons. The Varks took their first couple of bombs over with the jets because there where no weapons in place at Saudi Arabia. I don't know if the Pave Tacks where also mounted on the jets, because it's not possible to see it from the pics. Check them out : http://www.f-111.net/images1/dvic/index2_f...DFST9104239.jpg SCOUT
  6. Full Military Power is all you can get without using afterburner. The brits would say max dry. SCOUT
  7. In the USAF yaerbook 1995 there is a picture of a 57 FW ( weapons school ) F-15E carriing 2 inert bright orange B61's mounted on the lower middle CFT stations. Thejet doesn't carry any other ordnance or tanks, but the orange brings a nice contrast to the gunship grey fighter. SCOUT

They also carried ZUNI pods because the rockets had a similar radar return as the SHRIKES had, so the operators often shut down their radar when they saw them coming, saving the shrike for another day. Ther are some pics in the book "IRON HAND - The SAM suppression stroy" SCOUT
  9. Just another question to this topic. Where are the guidance fins of the JDAM's SCOUT
  10. Those Rivets will be added to all of the last 65 F-4F's we will keep flying until about 2012. The are added during depot level maintainance because some kind of life extending measures are done inside the intake structure by the maintainance department. All F-4F's which will be scrapped in in the next 2 years don't receive them. So as a rule of thumb: If you see a clean GAF F-4 ( very rare sight unfortunately ) it will have those rivets, while the really messed up F-4's usually don't have them since they will be flown until they are due for DLM and then they will be scrapped. 11. The AIRDOC Sheet ADM-7203 USAFE Phantoms in Germany. Early F-4 C/D/E/Gs and RF-4Cs features at least one F-4D which took part in a Tactical Air Meet in the 1978 held at Twenthe AB. It has been deployed along 4 other Loran D's from Spangdahlem's 23rd TFS. The jets received a little bit of special paiting on top of the fin and the jet which I know fro sure is part of the decal set also carried a MiG Kill star on both intake ramps, since the DetCo has been a Mig Killer in Vietnam, flying with the 8th TFW. SCOUT
  12. CMK makes a very good F-16 interior set with a gun drum. ammo belt, nev radome etc. They also do a seamless bigmouth intake. SCOUT
  13. Been there on Saturday. It has been a great show, but in my opinion too many display teams, because they basically all performed the same figures, it would have been better to include some more solo displays. I really liked the pierced heart made by the Patroullie de France ! The Mudhen display was not really up to speed, I think it was flown a bit rough. I remember the Angels perform at Pensacola NAS and over there their show rocked a lot more, I guess they just throttled back a little bit because of the european rules. The dutch Solo F-16 was a real thrill to watch. Overall it was wor
  14. Those decals are also available from Model Alliance in 1/32 scale. But when I remember correctly, the Leading Edge decals also include Smokey ASRAAM's and the IFF antennea for the nose, the MA sheet does'nt include them. SCOUT
  15. When you are using the Revell kit take a look at the clear canopy parts. The foward part is totally of shape + too short. The center section is way to long. There are lots of other things, but all can br corected. By the way, the rear sparrow wells are way to long too...and before I forget it the the complete nose section infron of the canopy is wrong, not just the radome, it is way to pointed. If you can get a hold on the Revell Monogramm F-4E kit, grab it, since it has very nicely done sideconsoles and instrument panels, especially the sideconsoles look a lot more realistic than the Tamyia
  16. Those are parts for the ALE-38 Chaff dispenser. German RF-4E carried one under one of the inboard pylons once in a while. Chaff bomber F-4E's from the 388th TFW carried them during Linbacker I/II as well. SCOUT
  17. Great Video !!!! I was able to watch the Blues train every Tuesday for about a year, they are just great ! In my opinion, their show is much better that the Thunderbirs, perfomance wise. SCOUT
  18. When german Tornado's are parked at our x-servicing ramp, they usually have their wings in the mid position, very seldomly fully forward with everything hanging out. As well german Tornado's are NOT parked inside their shelters with wings swept, theiy are swept mid(45 degree ? ) position. SCOUT
  19. I can only speak for the german IDS and ECR Tornado's but I guess for the GR-1/4 it's the same. The wings are usually at least in th mid position, otherwise the A/C will sit down on it's nozzles. I don't know about the F-3 since it has a longer forward fuselage. SCOUT
  20. Did one of you know that the 4th TFW had a Weasel PHANTOM in their inventory ? I thought I know a lot about the F-4 but never came across that pic before. http://www.5053phantoms.com/photos/display...rch&cat=0&pos=0 SCOUT
  21. The airframe may be old, but there were a lot of modern systems installed over the years, so that nobody really knows about the capabilities of the offensive systems , defensive systems , it is kept secret. That is true about very combat aircraft. There are certain systems others then military or civilian persons without a clearance for a certain degree secret stage are not allowed to know about their cababilities. Thats is important to keep a step ahead of potential enemies. You know the ongoing battle of the enginieers to develpop a something and the opposing side develpops something to co
  22. Some of my buddies remember, that the 20th FS also got one F-4E with a frameless windscreen. They are full of compliments for it, finally they could see outside to the front of the jet. SCOUT
  23. For info the ALQ-131 from the Hasewawa weapons set in 1/72 scale is also completely wrong, both in shape and also in dimensions. SCOUT
  24. It should get done in the next couple of weeks, basically only needs some small items added and the paint of course... My plan is to build a diorama and then it will be posted on ARC. SCOUT
