  1. My best effort was a one weekend build of the STP Indy Turbine car. The key to that was simple kit, few colors, and paint everything you can first so the paint can dry.
  2. Nice! I threw some paint on mine this weekend, so it only needs a little weathering and it will be done too. -Dave
  3. Early RF-8A's didn't have the ventral fins.
  4. Most of the ones that I see on hot rod builds are either cut from a body panel from another kit, or they are formed in a piece of sheet metal or foil. -Dave
  5. Very nice! I love the Tamiya bike kits. I've finished the Kawasaki and Honda Pons NSR500 myself. It looks like you did a really nice job on the wheel stripes too. Those can be a real bear. -Dave
  6. I'll definitely be ordering one of those! Sweeeeeeet!!!!
  7. Very nice Mark. I'm just finishing up assembly on my Takom MEXAS C2 and getting it ready for paint. They are nice kits to assemble. -Dave
  8. Looks like we lost a couple more F-16's yesterday in a midair. Both pilots appear to be ok. Link -Dave
  9. This is one of the reasons I suggested teams of 2-3 people. I think part of the problem with the Harrier build was that it took so long to get from the first person to the last that for the people at the end, priorities changed. With 2-3 people, you should be able to knock through a build pretty quickly, as long as you don't get too crazy with super complex kits and tons of detail. I wouldn't mind having to ship the model around either. -Dave
  10. I like it. I think you should keep the teams fairly small, say 2-3 people, and leave the subject matter pretty open ended. Would you do "form your own team", or throw everyone's name in a hat and draw them at random? It could be fun either way. We could donate the models afterwards to a museum or veteran's group afterward, that way nobody has to worry about who keeps the model when we're done. -Dave
  11. I've never really considered myself an expert on the subject, but I always thought the forward fuse of the Academy F-14 looked a little funky. Like others have mentioned here, the Fujimi Tomcat is really good. KA Models is actually reboxing the Fujimi plastic right now and including precolored PE, canopy mask, and a turned metal pitot tube all in one box. Freetime Hobbies currently have them for $25, which is one heck of a deal if you ask me. I bought a few of them myself. The one thing I don't care for on the Fujimi Tomcat is the exhaust, which is pretty plane. Typically, I will replace
  12. Been there, done that. Luckily for me it was at a show and the guy opened it up to look at it. Mine was a 1/12 Tamiya F1 kit and it was half started, but luckily all the parts were there. I cut the price in half for the guy immediately, but I still felt terrible. -Dave
  13. So I checked the kit I'm working on right now, and it does come with both types of head. Just let me know which one you'd prefer and send me your address. -Dave
  14. That can be a little expensive from the states.
  15. IIRC, the Fine Molds X-wing comes with both styles. If you would like, I'll check one of my kits and I can send you one. -Dave
  16. Same here. Placed an order a few months ago for some decal sheets. One of the Xtradecals sets was missing a sheet. Tried contacting them through the email address on the website but never heard back. -Dave
  17. Nice. I'll be following too. I've got one in the stash too. Too bad we can't see it in person. :( Unless you want to make a special trip down this Thursday.. -Dave
  18. Beautiful job! Disregarding all of your detailing work, how is the kit otherwise? -Dave
  19. I've got them, but you have to take the whole sheet. Let me know if you're interested. -Dave
  20. I don't have the Testor's set, but I did pick up these decals a while back off of eBay. I haven't used them yet, but they look nice. -Dave
  21. Dragon will also be coming out with a PAC-3 trailer. AFV Club is going to be joining the party as well with a PAC-2 trailer and HEMTT. Link over on Armorama. I'm probably going to wait for the AFV Club kit. EDIT: Looks like the AFV kit is actually a Trumpeter reboxing with some extra parts. But you'll get the tractor and trailer in the same kit, although it looks like it will be without the radar trailer. I'll probably still wait for the AFV kit. -Dave
