  1. Actually, that's incorrect. RAF Chinooks, Pumas, and Merlins were finished in BS381C 241 Dark Green - which was, as you say, applied over Black on the two former, and Zinc Chromate Yellow on the latter. Only the RN 'Junglie' Wessex and Sea King were finished in BS381C 298 Olive Drab.
  2. 42-100646, L4-E, Chalk No.67 - general consenus is that the serial was in yellow, and the codes were grey, as depicted in the paintings below: Corgi released a limited edition model in their Aviation Archive die-cast range using the same combination. Photo of another of the squadron's aircraft: Newspaper article about the aircraft's crew: This link shows the aircraft's position in the formation for 'Mission Albany': http://www.6juin1944.com/assaut/aeropus/en_page.php?page=s12
  3. As I've said before elsewhere, I'm baffled as to why Italeri have never added a HH-3 to their helicopter range... ....it was used by the Italian military, so would appeal to their home market, and there are re-box/re-issue possibilities... ....the two obvious releases would be an HH-3F with Italian SAR and USCG markings - the latter adding to their other USCG subjects... ....and a Vietnam-era HH-3E with a Gulf War MH-3E as a decal option - again, adding to similar subjects, eg., their HH-53C and MH-53J kits...
  4. Welcome aboard the thread - and you can certainly keep pics like that coming! @YF65_CH53E HMH-WEST, Gunny? That's a new one on me...
  5. Just streamed the first two episodes, and first impressions are that it's certainly on a par with Band of Brothers, which I've watched a few times - unlike The Pacific (also based on a Miller book), which I never had any hankering to re-visit... ....so am looking forward to the forthcoming instalments, and fully expect to recognise more events and further names - of both personnel and planes...
  6. Both the primary and secondary sites which I use for 'next day' streaming have Episodes 1 & 2 showing - they'll be my late evening's viewing tomorrow... 🤞
  7. Can't help with the aircraft, but this site has some more detail of the incident, including a photo of the lady herself, who posthumously received a gallantry award: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/58226957/elizabeth-ann-everitt
  8. Might be worth trying Revell, as their MH-47E (Cat No. 03876) is another derivative of the original Italeri kit (so same part number, A14) - they will probably charge you for it, though: https://www.revell-service.de/en-us/spare-parts-service/
  9. I think this is your ninth big Boeing build - I'm starting to suspect that you may have about as many as I do... ....and I've got 25 in total: 16 assorted AMT/AmTech/Heller -135s, and nine Airfix/Heller E-3s/707s/-137s... 😲
  10. The first re-issue of the Italeri kit under the Airfix label retained the original depiction of the metal blades: The content of the second boxing, however, was modified to include the composite ones instead: As I still have seven Chinooks in the stash, I don't really need any more - but with the forthcoming Airfix one priced at £33.99, if I do get any further examples, they'll likely be the above boxing when they start appearing more frequently on eBay, where they'll be a lot cheaper...
  11. The date when I originally posted this photo in the CD48184 thread reveals that I started preparing for this news some 15 months ago... ....these bits are tucked away ready to be added to one of my many Airfix kits, which will likely depict the HM-16 RH-53D '633' that I posted a photo of... ....then there's the Hickam bird in ADC Gray and white, and the CH-53C with the Canadian crest on its nose, and, and, and.... Just tried to PM you, @KursadA, but it's saying you can't receive messages - was trying to send an aide-mémoire regarding something which I'd previous
  12. Stumbled across these whilst searching for something on YouTube - 'Look at Life' was a series of 8-10 minute short films by the Rank Organisation which replaced newsreels in UK cinemas from 1959 until 1969. Shot on high-grade 35mm colour film, they contain some fascinating and stunning footage, none of which I've personally ever seen before... These military-themed ones have been correlated into a 'volume', and feature not just the British military of the day, but those on aviation and related subjects also include a NATO one (Air Umbrella), a West German one (Return to Arms), and
  13. Roger Freeman's 'Airfields of the Eighth, Then and Now' states: "hardstandings were of much lighter construction than those on bomber stations and many were surrounded by earth and brick blast walls" The map shows Old Crow's parking spot as FP 11 (Fighter Pen 11) - these 2012 photos show that exact spot with holiday caravans at its edges: (Photos from http://www.ukairfields.org.uk/leiston.html) Another reference states that when built, the airfield had dispersals for 62 aircraft, comprising 38 concrete pans and 12 twin pens, with 17 PS
  14. But is there the prospect of enough colour schemes to warrant a decal sheet?
  15. I do - the plans are marked as the Aviation News ones by Mike Keep and date from 1978, so they only cover 'early' versions... ....photos of the A2 fold-out sheet below to illustrate what they cover - as my copy still has it stapled in, the 'rear' is shown here in two halves:
  16. Though nose and tail RWR detectors were fitted to HC-4's CH-53Es during 1991, I don't believe that the Navy's machines ever carried any pylon jammers - pretty certain those were exclusive to the Marines' Echos and AFSOC's Pave Low MH-53Js at later dates; the CH-53Es of the 'Black Stallions' were replaced by MH-53Es in 1995, quite some time before the jammers which you're referring to ever came into use, so yes, you'd need much more modern schemes if those are to be included, which would therefore only be for Marine Corps aircraft...
  17. My name is Andy, and I'm a helo-holic... ....it's only been nine hours since my last rotary-wing 'fix' - my current bed-time reading is 'RAF Helicopters, The First Twenty Years'... I can almost match Gunny Dan with regard to 1/72 H-53 kits - I've got 15 Airfix/Italeri/Revell on my shelves... ....making them almost 10% of the 150+ choppers I have in the stash, awaiting re-build/restoration, and built! @modelersc - if larger versions of my HC-4 photos would help, I can re-scan at a higher resolution to make them bigger...
  18. I believe the 1/144 scale plans in the Verlinden Lock-On book were regarded as being pretty good.
  19. At the Battle of Britain 50th Anniversary Air Show, held at Boscombe Down in 1990.
  20. I've a number of shots of another of HC-4's aircraft, taken in 1990, as seen in Gunny Dan's thread here: http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?/topic/315875-h-53-reference-photos-for-2020/&do=findComment&comment=3032200 Though it didn't carry the 'Black Stallions' markings on the fuel tanks at the time, it did later.
  21. Neither: it's BS381C:241 Dark Green over a black primer coat - the same overall finish as worn by the Puma HC.2 and the Merlin HC.2; the latter's, however, was applied over a zinc chromate yellow primer. BS381C:285 NATO Green and BS 4800:12-B-25 'Lichen Green' were used together for the 'two-tone green' schemes applied to the Harrier GR.5/7/T.10 and the Wessex and Puma; 381C:285 was additionally the colour for the 'all-green' Hercules scheme.
  22. There's a review showing quite a few of its pages here: https://aeroscale.net/news/wwp-apache-part-2-in-detail So yes, it definitely came out, and retailers obviously had it - but everywhere now appears to be 'out of stock'... To view more pages, go here - there are quite a few shown which are fairly large individual images: https://ca.super-hobby.com/products/Apache-in-Detail-part-2.html
  23. Any idea when the 1/72 versions of the two H-53 sheets might be on the horizon, please? Been quite a while since this post:
  24. Nice resource - fortunately, you don't need to "do Facebook" to view the photos, they're all publicly accessible... ....as for that OH-58D shot - there's another showing it on the deck of the USS La Salle; described as a 'maint flt' with the pods hung as a joke: https://www.facebook.com/190308044351298/photos/pb.100064240017238.-2207520000/3840483139333752/?type=3 Another in-flight shot here: https://www.facebook.com/190308044351298/photos/pb.100064240017238.-2207520000/5175213722527347/?type=3 The first link's replies include an account of a similar prank at Ft Bragg
