  1. For what it's worth, I was able to post a thread in Display Case on my MiG-21. I did copy the text from a Word document again, but added the pics using the "Other Media ---> Insert Image from URL" option. Worked flawlessly.
  2. Wow! How could I miss this? Absolutely outstanding build. Fantastic work. Viggens are awesome! Viggens in splinter camo are twice so!
  3. Did the Germetik canopy sealant with Vallejo acrylics and a thin paint brush. I wanted to use painted clear decal sheet stripes (as on the Foxbat), but probably laid down too much paint on the clear sheet. The canopy is in bare aluminium. Apparently the Perspex the Soviets used deteriorated quickly and had to be replaced often. The whole canopy came as a complete replacement part. Eduard’s painting instructions should be taken with a grain of salt. They specify roundels, but apparently these MiGs didn’t use any. Just th
  4. It’s done! First of four Fishbeds has been finished. Kit and decals from Eduard. Only aftermarket stuff added was a modified Aerobonus pilot and the UB-16-57 pods from Eduard’s Brassin line. Colours are mostly Gunze’s Mr Hobby Color and Mr Color, with AK’s Extreme Metal series for most of the metal bits. Weathering with AK’s panel line washes and Oilbrushers. WIP is HERE. Plane depicts C 41 as flown by Cuban pilots in the late 1970s/early 1980s in Angola. The kit was an absolute joy to build. Basicall
  5. Thanks, guys! Much appreciated. Must admit that it looks like I didn't check the Display Case in November and thus missed your comments. Sorry 'bout that. That means I also missed Aigore's Viggen, which is one helluvan oversight! Aigore: It is the first time for sure. I think the only thing I showed on here was an F-16 and that was only half-finished by the end of the GB. Built it for the Viper GB - back in 2008.
  6. Tried to post a lengthy update post from my in-progress thread as a test in this thread. Same problems. "Server error", tried various post lengths, took out the image links,... and was unable to access ARC for a couple of minutes (about 30 mins, I reckon). Post copy-pasted from MS Word. Pics hosted on Flickr and links inserted into Word document. Windows 10. Firefox. Size of images is okay (less than 1280px wide, max 150kb). They work in my in-progress thread. When I posted the update two weeks ago (LINK!), I cut out the image links and posted it in two parts. The
  7. Sorry to hear that. Did you dip your canopy in Future? The solvent (ammonia or version thereof?) in Maskol attacks Future.
  8. There. Much better. Showing the lighter colour (red) at the top of the rudder and the darker (black) at the bottom of the rudder. I should be able to finish the Angolan MiG soon. The black is a gloss colour and needs some flat coat. Also needs some oil staining n the rudder hinge. Work continues on the Egyptian and Bulgarian Fishbeds. The Egyptian one only needs some minor weathering and some chipping to be ready for the final flat coat, while the Bulgarian is in the middle of the weathering stage. Didn’t do much on the Soviet MiG, but did get
  9. Managed to repair the damage to the cockpit canopy. Some filling, sanding and even filling and sanding that nasty scar down the fuselage side with Mr Surfacer 500. Getting it back to where I was before wasn’t without setbacks, though. Wholly self-inflicted, too. I resprayed the cockpit green with AKAN and let it dry. Or so I thought. Followed with AK’s Extreme Metal Aluminium. It crazed immediately. I wasn’t patient enough. Luckily, though, the crazed paint came off easily, including the turquoise AKAN colour. I resprayed with a blue green from Vallejo and followed that with some Vallejo “Met
  10. Thanks, y'all. Glad you like 'em. Ripping off the canopy absolutely turned out to be the right decision. Here's a quick final 2020 update. Hi Andy. The problem was that the smudge was on the inside of the canopy. Because of course it had to be on the inside. Something simple on the outside would've been just too much luck.
  11. The name's a right handful: Artool Texture FX Mini Series Template by Gerald Mendez - FHTFX1MS It's THIS SET. Maybe this will help looking. I think the mini set should be good enough for scale modelling. The full-sized are probably too big for even large scale models. Gotcha! Here's the effect on a 1/72 MiG-25. The grey colour shows it a bit better than the camouflaged Fishbeds. Fairly solid on some parts, more marbling showing through in other areas. The anti-glare-panel-to-be and the area between the fins show how much can show through with even lighte
  12. I think white will work best as it provides the starkest contrast to the black base, but other colours can work as well. I'm sure I've seen someone use dark brown to great effect replicating massive hydraulic fluid staining on an F-4's underside somewhere. Here's my lazy (or rather: impatient) man's approach using Artool "Texture FX" stencils on 1/72 MiG-21s.
  13. Which scale are you going for? Yes, the MF was an export version of the SM. The MF had a less capable radar than the SM. That is AFAIK also the only outwardly discernible difference. And even that is kinda difficult to spot. The SM's radar had two alcohol bottles, whereas the MF's only used one. The bottle(s) is/are stored in the forward avionics bay on the upper side of the nose. If you look at it from above and behind, you can make out the bottle(s) through the "overspill" air outlet. As for service in Afghanistan.... As far as I'm aware, the SM didn't serve in Afghan
  14. Didn't we have this topic a couple of weeks or months ago? I'm sure I've read something in that regard. Maybe have a look through the "Jet Modelling" subforum. EDIT: Found it! LINK!
  15. Whoa. Nice pic. Where did you find that? I'm building that one as well (also Eduard 1/72), but I don't think I found many pics of Bulgarian MFs and certainly none that were close enough to see any stencils. However, it seems their MiG-21bis' did carry a lot of stencils (more or less than other air forces, I don't know), even though they all seem to have different camouflage schemes. Have a look at this site: LINK! The bis' and the UM all carry stencils (the PF doesn't, but it looks like it's been repainted anyway). Two other examples of stencilled bis': EXAMPLE #1 - EXAMPLE #2 Going
  16. Quite interesting way to go about things. Special Hobby obviously feels there is a market for a new 109E in 1/72 (then again, isn't there always a market for a new 109?). Now, did Eduard not think so? Or do they have enough on their plate at the moment that they can't (or don't want to) fit in a new 1/72 109E in their schedule? Apparently Eduard are working on a 109G/K/Avia S-199-family in 1/72 at the moment (LINK!). Wishing Special Hobby lots of success with this one. Hope it'll prompt further cooperation and lead to a scale-down of Eduard's Tempest.
  17. Closer to Tamiya X-15 or more like Gunze H 26? And were you going for a certain FS number? 😉
  18. Really cool project. Always good to see prototypes/development aircraft.
  19. Thanks, guys. Glad y'all like her. rom, it's funny that I only noticed it now looking at the in-progress thread of your 1/48 Iraqi MiG, but I consulted your article in Aces High magazine "Gulf War" for inspiration numerous times when building my recon Foxbat. It was really helpful, especially regarding the weathering.
  20. Wonderful build of a gorgeous scheme.
