New tooled F-22A Raptor in 1:48

Recommended Posts

Hmmm, not bashing, but will take that with a pinch of salt. The one RoG release will most likely be the kit of choice. I wait to be impressed.

There are pics over on Hyperscale already, it says new tooling

It HAS to be better than the Italeri garbage so I'm excited!

still think il wait for the RoG 1/72...then wait for them to size it up to 1/48. may take a peak in a box of the academy one though.

thanks for the list. i heard about the new airfix 1/48 TSR-2. cant wait!!

...they are also re-issuing the 1/72 one (sorry to those guys who rushed in and paid loads for them on ebay when they went into administration)

And what scale are those Sea Fury's??

Liam

If they are the Trumpeter ones, they are coming out with 1/32 and 1/48 scale Sea Fury's this year..but the only downside is that got attacked by the mad riveter again and the Sea Fury had their rivets puttied over!

Probably not for another 3 to 5 years though.

This could be awhile. The only picture I've seen so far of Academy's Raptor is a wood desktop display model with proposed box art in the background. So they don't even have a test shot yet. As such, this could be a wait of about 9 months before we see it.

So, does anyone want to take any bets that Tamiya will beat them to the punch with a 1/48 Raptor kit when Academy is 3 months away from issuing their kit? Tamiya has done it before afterall. Of course, I do hope Revell of Germany does one as well, since it is always nice to have a choice in kits whenever possible, as opposed to a monopoly.

Looking at some of Academy's recent releases (the 1/32 Hornet) makes me very very excited about the 1/48 F-22. Looking at others (The 1/32 F-16) makes me not very excited about the 1/48 F-22. But, it's a new Raptor in the One True Scale!!! Come onnnnn Academy. Make us a good one!

- I said this in one of the other threads. I'm optimistically cautious about this one.

The way computer-driven model design works these days [i think], it should be relatively easy for Revell AG to take their 1:72 Raptor's computer files, make a copy for 1:48, and start tweaking. Add detail here, increase plastic thickness there... I'm glossing over the challenges, but my point is they wouldn't be starting from square one.

That's what I'd like to think...

IMO you won't see an accurate F-22A kit from any manufacturer until they have access to one. With Raptor #3 now moving to the Air Force Museum, I think the major manufacturers will be there with cameras and tape measures in hand. THEN we will see an accurate kit.
