  1. Really nice work on the Mustang, the weathering is great, subtle enough but makes it stand out! Congrats on finishing it...I know the paint probably isn't fully dry yet, but what are your thoughts for your next build?
  2. If only a 1/48th or 1/32nd Su-34 comes out with decals to match!!!! So far we've seen a new 1/48th MiG-29 from Great Wall Hobby and now a 1/48th MiG-25 from Kitty Hawk so new russian planes are coming out!
  3. What markings are you thinking?? VF-1 wolfpack????!!!!!!
  4. For the weathering I primed it, then preshaded the panel lines in black. Followed, by the application of the three colors for the tomcat TPS, 36375, 36320, and 35237. Then I lightened each color with a little bit of white for contrast, and proceeded to randomly and subtly mottle all the paint. Then using my reference photo I highlighted the panel lines in some areas that were either opened frequently or touched up with either the 36375 or 36320 (for a slightly more bluish tone). If you google "F-14D Grim Reapers 165 Demo" you should be able to find the pictures of the real thing. Once it
  5. The F-14, has always been my favorite airplane, and since I got back into modeling I haven't done one until now. The Trumpeter kit was FANTASTIC, just make sure you install the landing gear during the build and don't wait until the end! For extras I used the Aires resin cockpit, exhaust nozzles, Wolfpack ejection seats, and fightertown decals. I scratch built the plumbing on the landing gear. Paints were done with Mr. Color. Before I began this build I wanted a heavily weathered F-14, and remembered seeing a photo of the VF-101 Grim Reapers Tomcat that was perfect, there were also great r
  6. Not sure exactly whats going on here, but I had a similar problem when I attempted to spray misting coats of mr color with lacquer thinner for a salt weathering job. When I went to wash off the salt, DISASTER, the future reacted with some combination of the future and lacquer thinner. Never one to panic, I figured there has to be a solution. Enter 91% isopropyl alcohol, this stuff acts as a solvent/leveler with future, I just brushed it all over the plane. The finish isn't as smooth as it was before the incident, but the alcohol turned the future clear again, instead of gummy, and saved a
  7. Since you build so many eagles i thougt i ask what do you use to get the bluish grey on the mod eagles? Fs 36176
  8. Nice work, how much paint did you have to use to cover that beast?
  9. Chuck, really nice work with the puttying on the wings, very subtle effect, your attention to detail is impressive.
  10. Great looking plane! Love the paint job, makes me want to pick up the conversion set!
  11. Gotta love the Grim Reapers F-14s!!!!! So DIRTY, love the weathering
  12. Here's another method thats technically more realistic. Print out, either on tamiya masking sheets or just regular paper, the word "NAVY" in the appropriate size, or you can photocopy an existing decal sheet. Then get a fresh xacto blade, a good metal ruler and cut out the word "NAVY", PRESTO you have an actual paint mask!!!! If its tamiya masking sheets just stick it where you want it to go, or if its paper get some elmers restickable glue sticks (you should be able to get it at any office supply shop) and place it and spray!
  13. Look at some pictures of "old crow" p151d, I have the scale precision masks instructions and I believe it only shows 3 stripes, I'll take a photo and try and post it soon. Keep up the good work.
  14. How's the project coming along? Haven't seen an update in a while and it was so close to being finished!
  15. Title says it all, I remember reading somewhere it was supposed to be feb 2013, I know they won't update trit site for another week or so, but was wondering if anyone had some info?
  16. Its a really great kit, just make sure you carefully cut on the panel lines of the kit. The only quirk is that since I used the two seat version of the su-30 some of the gun panel doesn't completely fit and needs to be carefully sanded in order for the resin to fit and rescribed to look right.
  17. I'm currently doing a 1/32nd F-14D and was hoping to put some nice weapons on it, while flipping around the web I came across these resin aim-54c, the photos looked pretty good, but since they're a little pricey I was hoping someone might have used them and might be able to share their thoughts.
  18. Here's a trick I use for sanding, take your nail and rub it back and forth perpendicular to the seam line, when it goes over with no feeling of it "catching" it should be sanded flush. Also, I use CA glue in a lot of gaps and joints, let it cure for several hours. It's ROCK hard, it really can take a while to sand down, but the results are spectacular when its done.
  19. Just put them in a mild detergent solution with mildly warm water (don't use even remotely hot water as this can warp or bend the resin) in a tupperware container for a couple hours to over night, rinse them under cool water, and let them air dry. Presto!
  20. Fairly soon I'm going to start the new Great Wall Hobby Mig-29, I've found a few photos of the 1993 Paris Air Ahow demonstrator, and I was wondering if anyone had any reference photos of Russian/Soviet MiG-29 9-12s with different patterns of the grey/green camouflage. Thanks Dan
  21. I started this project last year and almost finished it, however, I never liked how the stripes came out the first time, so I stripped all the paint, re-surfaced the whole upper portion and re-painted the whole thing. This was the first time I used resin aftermarket kits so I know its not perfect. I used the Aires F-16C cockpit, gear bays, exhaust nozzle, and CMK seamless large mouth intake, wheeliant wheels, and an aftermarket ACMI pod. I took the Revell 1/72nd kit decals and enlarged them, then cut them into masks which I placed with Elmers repositionable glue. I made some of the decals,
