Australian CH-47D 1/35 Trumpeter

Recommended Posts

G'day all,

Some of you will have seen this ticking over very slowly on the helicopter forum, but seeing as it now has a little of everything in it (not to mention that it's finally finished!) I thought I'd start a new post in the display case to show you all. For those not familiar with this epic tale, this is the culmination of 6 and a half years of work to bring the not so accurate trumpeter 1/35 chook up to a reasonable standard, with the applicable Australian modifications to depict on of our birds on a deployment to Afghanistan. During the course of the build I deployed for a total of a year to work on the 1/1 scale versions which didn't really help the completion time, but did allow me to gather quite a good collection of reference material!

The truck is a converted Italeri M977, with modifications to the refuel station at the back. The hilux (or pickup) is the meng version and was a joy to build. If fact its the only item I added which was not modified in some way. All the figures are either converted or scratchbuilt (another of many firsts for me) and the little John Deere "gator" was built to represent our pimped-up version we made for ourselves in our spare time over there. If anyone would like to know more or see more photos please let me know.

I hope you like it,

Cheers, Craig

Thanks for the kind words guys! There's so much talent in these modelling forums here you can sometimes feel like it's not worth posting anything you've done, but I guess that's how we all learn hey? I'm glad you all like it, I really enjoyed building it, but I'm very happy it's over and done so I can finally attack some other projects I've been thinking about for some time. I'm taking it in to work tomorrow, so the accuracy will certainly be put to the test! :thumbsup2:

HeavyArty - yes the gator is scratchbuilt. I'll have to post some more pics of it when I get the chance. I made one wheel and the cast the rest. The body work is made up from various bits and pieces but it seems to look the part... just had to have one!

Apologies for the quality of the photos, I'm far from the world's best photographer, but maybe photoshop can redeem me with background experimentation at some point.

G'day Daniel,

Thanks for posting the pic of good old 201. She's always been a good bird. The pic is great in that it shows pretty much the look and feel I was trying to caputre. I was always intrigued by the green your super D's were painted!

Cheers, Craig
