  1. That makes sense and is a good question -everything fits really well and precisely, so there's a good chance that it is overengineered and is designed around the sequence in the instructions. It could also be overengineered enough that it's not a problem...who knows? One thing to watch out for that I realized today is that it is VERY easy to sand off the locators for the inboard Harpoon launchers. They are tiny little bumps and the inboard ones are right where the lower wing panel joins the upper wing. I totally sanded them off when I blended the panel into the wing and had no idea
  2. Are you asking about the well itself or the gear? The well seats in a rebate inside the fuselage, so it cannot be inserted after you join the fuselage halves (it's bigger than the opening). You could bring it through the wing opening with long tweezers or taped to a long stick and set it in the rebate behind the fuselage opening, but I don't know if that gains you anything. I'm doing it gear up and that's kind of how I did the closed nose gear door insert. HTH
  3. I would enjoy a "Spirit of Washington" that had Washington spelled correctly on BOTH sides. I'm pretty sure I can splice the missing N from a different name, but it's a pretty annoying miss by Begemot.
  4. Deal with confidence, Glynn is a great trader - responsive and everything arrived safe, sound and as advertised!
  5. Scalemates has it: https://www.scalemates.com/products/img/7/8/8/1016788-42-instructions.pdf
  6. FWIW, Sprue Brothers is the only place I have found the Masking Sol R in stock for the past several months. I was in the same boat waiting to need enough supplies to justify an order and finally pulled the trigger last week after periodically checking various retailers for months. The "R" version is apparently the only one that doesn't strip acrylic because it doesn't have ammonia. I've had Micromask remove Tamiya acrylics, which is why I wanted to try the Masking Sol R. (As a fellow Washingtonian, I can tell you that even Skyway Model Shop didn't have any last weekend)
  7. Thanks for the info, I'll try that method next time - I felt like I was doing something wrong and that you could never actually spray enough primer to seal the edges, so it's good to know I just needed 4 more coats of primer. The sanding the over spray off the backside when you're done is genius. Thanks!
  8. Dumb question going all the way back to the beginning of your project - how did you seal the edges of your MDF base to make it as smooth as the top? You made it sound easy, but I've always ended up doing a ton of sanding. I've tried joint compound, super glue, Mr. Surfacer, and high-build primer with mixed results and haven't really settled on a process... TIA, model looks awesome!
  9. Thanks, those are good ideas and the filling with paint is exactly what I needed to supplement my current solution that seems to be working. I've been using a 1mm micro-chisel to engrave the line one step at a time. There's just enough of a mismatch between the plastic and putty that I can line it up reliably and the line segments are so short in 1/144 that I only have to move the chisel one time to cover the distance. There are still some overruns and mistakes, so the paint filler will probably resolve that better than my plan of Mr. Surfacer 1000. I might do a decal for the crew
  10. Working on the AMP 1/144 B-2 with closed up weapons bay and crew access doors and I'm struggling to come up with a clever way to rescribe the sawtooth features on the closed doors. The fit of the kit doors was atrocious, so I just backed the openings up with styrene and filled them with Apoxie Sculpt. The contours are great now, but keeping everything parallel and sharp is a struggle. (I was attempting something similar to Paul Budzick's method he used on his P-38 but it didn't really leave a sharp, clean outline by the time I blended everything in because there are so many tiny co

  12. Tamiya Airbrush Cleaner with the pink lid is amazing - it did a good job the last time I did a deep clean on my Eclipse and I use a little bit during normal cleanup too
