  1. Handsome? Intelligent? Well, I'd say I'm most notably "and". They're in the making and I will gladly share them. Soon... Erik
  2. Over the past few years, bort number application and style has become more and more consistent - with the advent of VVS legends and RF-serials in particular. Nowadays, general style variations are largely manufacturer- or variant-specific. The times of "wildly varying" styles are gone. It's a "geometrically constructed" typeface following a prescribed formal principle. Erik
  3. Wishlists?! <irony> Slightly less annoying than "XYZ load-out question #178" or "Can the F-22A hold its own against a Bf 109?" or "Realistic weathering of a Galaxy-class Starfleet vessel?" or "Actual shade of RLM 99?", and so forth... </irony>
  4. Mr.COLOR -> solvent-based acrylics Mr.HOBBY COLOR (ex Mr.AQUEOUS HOBBY COLOR) -> water-soluble acrylics I'm quite sure you'll love them after some experimenting. Thinning: Mr.COLOR THINNER thins pretty much everything within the Gunze range of products, even the water-soluble Mr.HOBBY COLOR acrylics. Mr.COLOR LEVELING THINNER, Mr.COLOR THINNER + retarder, to obtain a smoother and more even finish. The solvent-based Mr.COLOR acrylics tend to dry rather quickly. Mr HOBBY COLOR THINNER, only suitable for the water-soluble Mr.HOBBY COLOR acrylics: Cheers, Erik
  5. I built exactly the same model a couple of years ago, and you really did a geat job on your "Johan". Congrats. Cheers, Erik
  6. I'm using soft PVC masking tape. http://www.kip-tape....king-tapes.html Cut into small strips it adapts quite neatly to rounded shapes due to its high stretchability. The adjacent areas are masked using "ordinary" masking tape, e.g. TAMIYA, etc. Erik
  7. Impressive. Really impressive. Gotta have one. And now for something completely different... Any news on the MiG-31? What's the progress? And, most important question, WILL it progress? Erik
  8. That would be great, Gabor! Typically, I would expect the rear ends of both forward and ventral airbrakes only slightly sticking out by ~10mm in 1:1. On other aircraft the forward ones remain flush, only the ventral one being slightly deflected. Cheers, Erik
  9. The ventral airbrake should be locked while carrying the vemtral fuel tank. Nevertheless, there are photographs of operational MiG-21 with their ventral airbrake resting on the PTB: Indian UPG MiG-21UM PoAF MiG-21bis CroAF MiG-21bis SrbAF How comes? Bleeding down due to lack of hydraulic pressure? Deviation from applicable T.O.? Cheers, Erik
  10. Converting the Academy MS into an MLD will be quite a challenge. Pretty much like converting a Bf 109E into a Bf 109K... Here on ARC a fellow modeller tried his luck a couple of years ago, converting the Academy kit into an ML - quite successfully/"close enough": http://www.arcforums...howtopic=210476 As to the MLD, you'll have to go some extra miles in order to make it look "close enough". Accordingly, I'm going to address only the most prominent features. A comprehensive to-do list might become rather disencouraging. MUST-HAVE - BVP 50-60 chaff/flare dispensers - modifying the wing g
  11. Scale modelling has taught me quite a few things over the past thirty years, among them: "There's an exception to every rule.", "In case of doubt stick with available directives.", T.O. 1-1-4 in the present case, and "Judging actual colours from b/w photographs is like reading the tea leaves." Black USAF titling cannot be ruled out, but it should be considered as the (much-quoted) exception to the rule. Insignia blue titles: Erik
  12. Yes, the "MiG-28" boxing is identical to the early aggressor kit. Except for the decals, though. http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10285490 Erik
  13. Soft edges and rather straight lines. The (then) effective painting guides were explicitly stipulating "merging" colour transitions. Either by applying soft paint edges or by applying zigzagging "sawtooth" colour demarcation lines within a prescribed area of 5 or 10 centimetres. Luftwaffe Colour Demarcation Erik
  14. The Matterhorn Circle sheet has become a rare (and much sought) item, and that folk on ebay seems to be well aware of it. Another option: Back in 1993 Revell of Germany reboxed the Hasegawa kit with Swiss markings: Revell 4767 Try to contact Revell's "Department X", requesting whether they can provide you with a replacement sheet. Notwithstanding the fact, that this kit was released more than twenty years ago, I'd positively suggest to give it a try: service@revell.de Good luck! Erik
  15. When they researched the MLD's forward fuselage (viewing an actual MLD from orbit in their secret scale model research space station), the bang seat looked like a K-36 to them. However, one of the trumponauts expressed some serious doubts, objecting, MiG-23s were only equipped with Mikoyan KM-1 series seats. Accordingly, they decided to play safe, adding both seats. The trumponaut mentioned above was later transferred to Zhengdefu for disciplinary reasons...
  16. Great job - impeccable build and finish. The He 100 is somewhat of a rare sight, so thanks for sharing. Cheers, Erik Built its 32nd scale cousin a few years ago:
  17. Mirage 2000 and MiG-21bis. Has there ever been a 32nd scale injection-moulded kit of the Mirage 2000? Not that I'm aware of. And just like Christian has stated above, positively on many modellers' wishlists. It's about time to tackle one in 32nd scale... The MiG-21 per se is an iconic and significant aircraft, and the bis in particular would offer a good wealth of colourful liveries and decal variants. However, an MF would be great, too. Even more schemes and marking options to choose from. Personally, I'd give the MiG-21bis a slight edge over the Mirage. Erik
  18. @nonrivetcounter Just in case... Compared to the "E", as announced by Kinetic, the "C" is quite a different beast. Erik
  19. Hi Brad, The sprues of Trumpeter's MiG-23M and MF are virtually identical. The MiG-23M boxing solely varies in having a different canopy which lacks the strut at the top. And just like LH already pointed out, there were indeed grey MiG-23M with the MF-style canopy: MiG-23M bort 12 red Vertical tail rudder hinge: Absolutely right, Trumpeter's M misses that completely: The Mig-23 has a single stirrup and screw hinge with supporting flanges on roller bearings at the top and bottom of the rudder. As to Trumpeter's MiG-23M boxing, their rendition is incorrect, since its representing the
  20. Is that the Croatian seat you're talking about? Black KM-1M Found that picture on a Hungarian website. Erik
  21. Thanks for putting the record straight, Gabor. :thumbsup:/> Just like you said, the harness somewhat confused me. Pretty much like some Finnish 21bis seats: Souce: Wikimedia Again, thank you, Erik
  22. @Gabor Am I right in assuming, the seat below is a series 2? Cheers, Erik
  23. TRUMPETER Wa San Development (Macau) Co. Ltd. -> Hall 7, stand F-36 As to Lionroar/GWH, no entry found.
  24. Indeed, very interesting. Thanks for sharing. Erik
