3D printed accessories on the way

Recommended Posts

My take on this matter:

1)      Modern (meaning from July 2024 onward not Vietnam nor DS) US/NATO pilots in the latest suit/helmet in both 1/48 and 1/32.

2)      Modern (meaning from July 2024 onward not Vietnam nor DS) US ground crew figures in both 1/48 and 1/32.

3)      How about some Legion/Tiger Eye and related pods? They are starting to appear in growing numbers under F-16/F-15E bellies.

4)      How about an F-16 tail base with BLOS modification?  All active USAF F-16 units have them already.

5)      An actual F-15E update set for the Revell is sorely needed.

6)      Please NO MORE Tomcat nor Me 109 nor P-51 stuff, these subjects have been covered to death by other aftermarket makers.

By making more stuff for #6 makes #1-5 possible.

A USAF F-16 update set with the BLOS tail base and other parts for the Tamiya kit is one of the first set group of goodies I will be announcing soon.

Great choice and can I suggest a one piece radome for the Tamiya and Kinetic Gold Vipers in 1/48?

While I get this in theory, I feel like #6 usually just means....more Tomcat/109/P-51 stuff. As much as Eduard has brought to the table over the years it feels like they could do so much more, lately instead are cranking out more of the same popular single engine WWII stuff. Fortunately Kursad is definitely one of those aftermarket guys who gets it and is willing to fill the voids.

The "sugar scoop" exhausts for the AH-64 which have as yet only been included in ONE Hasegawa boxing (1/48).

Aside from that, I'd very much like to see 1/35 ammunition for the WW2 German 88mm Flak 41 This is an elusive weapon with only about 530 units built. It used different ammo than the famous 88mm Flak 18/36/37/Tiger I, and it was also different from the 88mm Pak/Kwk 43.

The gun itself has been released by now (injection moulded) by three makers in five or so boxings. Bronco are including a couple of shells, but these are wrong, being for a Pak 43. I'm aware that there are makers which specialize in artillery ammo, but none of them has stepped forward yet, and as you're explicitly asking for suggestions, there you are 😄

I have an idea. I asked BAM Models about this but got no feedback.

An SR-71B conversion kit for the Revell 1/48 SR-71A kit, #04967?

Second that! Chances Arnaud from BAM would have enough availability to issue that kind of kit are scarce.

A 2-seater conversion for AFV’s U-2A/C would also be great.

While a two seat U-2 conversion would be great, I'd do it for the Testors U-2.  The AFV kit is wrong in so many areas - rear fuselage cross section, forward fuselage, wheel wells...

It's my understanding that BAM models is no longer in business.

His website says he is planning on opening again in Mid-August...so probably any time now. It WAS my understanding he had closed, but I think that is no longer the case.

Arnaud is pretty much alive and kicking. He just doesn’t have enough availability to run his business full time. He reopens the site every once in a while for orders, and generally announces it on his Facebook page.

I built the Testors release of the Italeri 1/48 SR-71 kit back in the 1980s and seem to remember that it included parts for the SR-71B model. But hey, you were asking for a conversion for the recent Revell kit.

I have a copy of that kit too. I did ask if it was possible to use those SR-71B parts on the new REV kit but everyone says its probably not worth the effort.

Its either that or a new conversion kit

I realize that the Academy 1:144 P-8A Poseidon kit is not yet out, but perhaps a ventral Multi-Mission Pod (MMP) (seen just ahead of wing root) and dorsal SATCOM antenna could be on the list of 3D printed items.  Seems easy enough.  And then VX-20 Force decals!

And why not add the AN/APS-154 Advanced Airborne Sensor (AAS)?  Seems it is used by line units now.

I second the request for an F-105B and a Thunderstick II conversion for the Hobby Boss 1/48 kits. Would greatly help us using more options from CD48186.

And 1/72 F-105B nose and T-stick II hump for the Revell kit (preferred) or Trumpeter kit (secondary).

I'll second Dutch's 1/72 F-105B recommendation. Then you could produce an accurate Thunderbird decal sheet for the B. The 50-year-old Minicraft Thunderbird Thud kit decal was poorly printed with bleeding red ink and didn't come close to fitting the better Revell Thud kit.

Add cut tape or vinyl masks in all three major scales for the red/white/blue markings.  A natural extension of your 3D endeavor.

Adding to the shopping list, how about a replacement nose with  engraved refueling door for the Academy 1/48 A-10C? This is the only really minus I see in this kit. There is an option made by Quickboost but it require precise cutting and the potential to frack up the nose piece is to high.
