  1. Im in southern Indiana. Im not looking for built/display quality kits. Just stuff that may have been dropped, or a cabinet fell and its too much to rebuild. Kits that got started but wont get finished. Bought kits that may be missing parts, etc. Would prefer to keep it in the US, but Im not against Canada either. Thanks!
  2. Im looking for and wanting to buy your 48th scale US Navy jets that are missing parts, broken, on the shelf of doom, or just otherwise not going to be built/finished. Specifically: A-4 (Monogram or Hasegawa) A-6 (Revell) (this includes EA-6A and B) A-7 (Monogram or Hasegawa) F-4 (Revell) F-14 (Revell or Hasegawa) F-18 (Revellogram A&C and Hasegawa) I will consider anything else you might have. Please drop me a PM here. Thanks!
  3. It just depends on the flight schedule for when the bird is supposed to be to the range. Usually the live ordnance is put on within a few hours of the flight. The daily is done first thing in the morning, even before flight hours or the airfield opening up for the day. I dont remember ever seeing a bird armed with live stuff over night. (mind you I was only a fuel truck driver) Another thing to consider is that at least Navy jets are armed in an area other than the flight line infront of the hangar with the other jets. Where I worked at Lemoore, they had a CALA loading area on the
  4. I cant speak for the USAF, but my experience with the Navy is that "red gear" IE intake covers, pitot covers, exhaust covers, etc., have the RBF flags on them when they are new. But it doesnt take long for them to either be removed, wore out or ripped off, to the point that its just the actual cover itself, and no flag. When the jets are done flying for the day and there are no pressing maintenance issues, the red gear is put on and the bird is "put to bed" for the night. Then in the morning, the plane captain (USAF crew chief) pulls all the red gear, does his daily inspection and preps the bi
  5. It depends on the kit. If it comes with the ability to open something, like the 1/48 Hasegawa A-7E, then I will build one of each, open and closed. But I wont buy aftermarket bits to purposely open something. And since I build for display in my home, and not contests, I dont do aftermarket cockpits, 3D cockpit details, etc. Pretty much straight from the box, aftermarket decals most times. I might pick up aftermarket weps and so forth, but thats really about as far as it goes.
  6. I too am at this point. I have kits built, sitting on boxes because I have no more room. You can check FB marketplace for someone selling display cases. Thats what I am doing. If you have no room for more cases, try selling the kits on eBay. You might also check with a local VA Hospital and see if they have room and would be interested in creating a display area for your kits. Or a local VFW. May even check with a local VA owned retirement center. Heck, maybe check into a recruiters office and see what they say?
  7. You can also land in LA and eventually take Amtrak (the national passenger train service) up the coast to San Francisco. (it also goes down to San Diego) That said, San Francisco is a very beautiful place but with the ongoing homeless epidemic in the area, plus the change in laws regarding crime and prosecution, I would be wary of going there. The train stops in Jack London Square in Oakland and you can take BART across into the city. There is the USS Hornet museum in Alameda, as well as the former NAS Alameda museum. There is also the former Navy base at Treasure Island, which
  8. Just to add to this a bit.... If you cant get into the boneyard, there are a few recyclers in the area right next to the base that you can look at. Dont know whats all left as I havent been there since '17. However, just south of Tucson is the Titan Missile Museum, a mostly complete Titan missile complex. https://titanmissilemuseum.org/ On the way to Phoenix there is the Marana Valley airport which has a small boneyard of A-4 Skyhawks and a few other things. I dont know if you can get to them but they are right up against the fence if not. The CAF also has a
  9. Trying to send you a PM but its saying that you cannot receive messages. Im interested in trading for the Academy F-18C.
  10. I use Model Master enamels. I blend some pale green, a small dab of yellow and a small dab of white. Lighten a bit with white or darken a bit with pale green. Not all the panels on the same plane will be the same shade, depending on the age of the aircraft, and individual panel in question.
  11. There is a set on ebay right now for less than $12 if you are still looking.
  12. Dave ran into some unexpected issues with the new house but is getting it sorted out and taken care of as fast as he can. I cant say how long it will be before he is sending out orders, but he will get it taken care of as soon as he can.
  13. Something else that is an A/B only thing are the emergency canopy jettison doors in the nose. I dont have time to find a picture, but its the door where the RESCUE arrow points to. These were eliminated on C/D airframes.
  14. If nothing pans out, see if Squadron did a vac form canopy for it. I think they may have. Or wait until they rerelease the kit later this year and order a replacement from them.
  15. If nothing else, I have Authentic Decals VFA-211 48-38....
  16. I havent had any yellowing that I have noticed. Then again, my cans never get more than about 3 years old. (Im not a prolific builder) I do shake them quite a bit, and make sure that they are at least room temperature.
  17. I still use MM enamels. As such, I use Testors gloss/dull coat on my models. No mixing, no adding, no levelers, etc. Straight out of the can. The base coat grey was airbrushed, the clears were rattlecan.
  18. Hi there! like the title says, any condition 48th Hasegawa A-7 D/E. Any number of parts available. Located in southern Indiana. Pleas let me know what you have and we can go from there. thanks!
  19. I do too, but havent seen it since the 80s. Forgot about the carrier landing.
  20. I had that back when I had a DON CA card as well. My flight line badge was good for up to 3 additional people.
