Tamiya 1/48th F-14 Sept 2016

Recommended Posts

Rudder stiffeners will probably be included in photoetch form, though I wonder if they'll only include the L-shaped ones or if the hexagonal stiffeners will be included as well. TCS pod, yes please because that'll open the kit up more broadly, though I won't cry if they don't include it. If these details are not included, I think we can count on one hand the schemes available without aftermarket.

Speaking of Tomcats, would you like to see the rudder stiffeners and a TCS pod included in a kit like this?

How many more squandron markings can be had from this kit if it did include these details?

Those items would open up a whole slew of markings options. I'll wait for the kit to be released and see what's in it. If there's anything missing, I'll cover it in my Steel Beach line. I'm thinking that it needs the early gun vent as well. Hopefully what I've already got done will fit.

Yes, the stiffeners and TCS would be great. I would consider the gun vents equally important.

Looking at a test shot of some the sprues right now, and it it going to be an awesome kit! This is the F-14 kit you always hoped for to come from the best model company around. I'll see if I can post some images.

Here is a peek of some surface detail. Looking at reference photos, the details are spot on.

The lower fuselage is molded in a way that will require minimal to no sprue attachment point clean up, it is that well thought out. The intake and lower fuselage integration is spectacular.

The test shot will be shown at the upcoming HobbyTown National Convention in Lincoln, NE and the IPMS National Convention in Columbia, SC. Please come by and visit the Tamiya booth at these events to see the awesome details up close and in person!

Even surface detailing even in small radius of curvature areas (corners and part edge). I'm not an F-14 fan at all but it's going to be hard to resist here.

Can't wait to see this one, and also looking forward to see how the AMK F-14 will look like (how many 1/48th F-14's are coming out this year exactly ? Is it 3 or 4 ?) (Zoukei Moura as well i think ?)

Hello Mr. Sin,

no, i have never touched the U-2 as a kit subject, i don't really plan to make one either (for myself), although if someone did put the right incentive on the table and asked me to make one or a family of them, hypothetically speaking, i would probably not say no. It's an interesting airplane. Not too sure if anyone else apart from Testors ever made a model of it.

Stephane.

Need anyone close to Lincoln to build a test shot for the Hobbytown Convention? ;)

I know, probably not as the kit will be out in only a couple months anyway and we are less than a month away from that convention. But if you did... drop me a PM. If not, no worries.
