So if 15 people want the same item, the buyers from outside the US and paying by money order will have lower priority than buyers with a US address who pay by Paypal regardless of when the PM was sent. On the other hand, a buyer who PMd me 2 hours after I posted the list, has a US shipping address, is paying by Paypal, and is the only person interested in an item, chances are the item is thiers. 2. Hi all, I am starting a new build - Tamiya 1/48 F-14D Tomcat VF-213 Black Lions, AJ213 / 164602. CVW-8, USS Theodore Roosevelt CVN-71 - Last Cruise, 2006. What I am planning to use for this build: Tamiya 1/48 Grumman F-14D Tomcat Eduard Brassin 1/48 F-14D Cockpit Eduard Brassin 1/48 F-14D Wheels Eduard Brassin 1/48 AN/AAQ-13 LANTIRN pod Eduard Brassin 1/48 AIM-9M/L Sidewinder Eduard Brassin 1/48 GBU-12 Eduard Brassin 1/48 GBU-38 Thermally Protected Kasl 1/48 F-14D Exhausts Master 1/48 F-14 Pitot & AOA SAC 1/48 Grumman F-14 Tomcat Landing Gear Fightertown Decals Grumman Tomcat F-14A/F-14B/F-14D Data and Weapons Before I start posting more progress I have few questions regarding this specific aircraft: 1. I would be interested if this F-14 color scheme was used on the whole last cruise in 2005? 2. What weapons would they use on this aircraft during this cruise? I was planning to equip this with 2x AIM-9L, 1xLANTIRN, 1xAIM-54C, 2x GBU-16 + ROVER system antenna on the right front pylon (saw a photo of this somewhere). Would this be a realistic loadout during this deployment? 3. Was this aircraft in any type of fight or deploying bombs during the last cruise? Or was it purely reconnaissance missions? Any information about this particular aircraft and this last cruise would be highly appreciated! Also any great photographs of this plane would be very useful. The cockpit and seats seem to be mostly done. Small mistakes here and there, but I guess I can live with that. I have to say I was quite impressed with the amount of detail the Eduard cockpit set has in this scale. Compared it to my previously done 1/32 F-14D cockpit, it is not that far off! Also the Fightertown Data & Weapons decals set provides lots of useful and detailed decals for the cockpit. Thanks for watching. Tomas
  3. Okay it seems that starting a topic like this inevitably gets Zactoman going so here goes: How long do we have to wait for correctly shaped INTAKES for the Trumpeter 1/32 F-14? Hey, it worked for Rafael Winter with the Flanker. Seriously, I'll buy you the donor kit plus guarantee at least my order plus pay whatever else you want if you'll take this one on.
  4. Improving Hasegawa 1:48 Tomcat – 00: General considerations I am a proud rivet counter distinctly affected by Advanced Modeler Syndrome (AMS). At 57, I am chronic. Given that AMS is not a life threatening disease, I refuse every therapy, keeping digging deeper into this hobby in the utmost contempt for the “out of the box” approach. So far, I refused from posting my work here or on any other forum. Doing that requires additional time and challenging abilities, like photography. In addition, English is not my mother language. In other words, this is going to be my first In-Progress thread and this is going to be the first time that I post here by my name and not by a nickname. The Hasegawa 1:48 Tomcat is well over thirty years old and very much has been said and written about it. Since when opening the box for the first time, I strong had the feeling that this kit was rushed up from the few years older 1:72 Tomcat, by any account relatively more accurate and detailed. Maybe this is the reason why fit is quite below Hasegawa standards in 1:48. Actually, I always believed this as the worst modern jet kit in this scale by this firm, but no other Tomcat was a better choice for a rivet counter like me. As a result, the Tamiya Tomcat was a very good news, but suddenly it left me with a bunch of obsolete Hasegawa Tomcats. I managed to sell them all my Hasegawa but one, a second hand kit missing the original box, instructions, and decals, but full of many spare parts and additional sprues that make possible a build of any version of the Tomcat. This kit is now on my workbench. In an attempt to please my AMS, my plan is to improve my Hasegawa Tomcat using only a few of the many aftermarket items produced for this kit over the years. For one reason or another, I often ignore Hasegawa's instructions sequence. In general, after studying the sprues long enough to get bored, I am used to writing my construction order, trying to break down the construction process into many different subsets. This time makes for six subset: Forward Fuselage Main Fuselage Tails, Stabilizers, and Strakes Cockpit and Wheel Wells Wings Undercarriage Legs, Wheels, Seats, and Canopy Unless I change my mind on the way (quite possible), my intention is to build one of the first boat tailed Tomcat with the rear air brakes open and the wings swept forward, to take advantage of the options offered by this old kit. As for the aftermarket, I am planning to use nothing more than an Aires cockpit and some Royale Resin wheels, but I'm not really sure. About the markings, I have no idea yet. More from me soon.
  5. No, not a new song title, but trying to determine what shade of blue was used on the VF-143 F-14As in the light gull gray over white era. I have the Furball Decals, and they specify Insignia Blue for the tops of the tailfins (that must be painted), but that will not match the blue trim of the tailfins and the three stripes on the forward fuselage. Looking at photos on the web, the blue is definitely lighter than the dark blue of the insignia. The hue varies with the photos too - in one photo it definitely has a hint of red in it which I can find no FS match for. In others it looks less rich, so I am thinking something along the lines of FS 15050 Blue Angels blue as that would also be available through the Navy supply chain... Jens
  6. Dear Fellow Modellers There maybe a thread you can direct me too, but what is the consensus on who makes the most attractive F-14 Tomcat in 1/72. I think I last made one from Airfix in the early 1970s (oops) Thanks Andrew
  7. Hi, Someting is hanging from the rear of the F-14 strakes. I have no good pics to understand what. Can you help ?
  8. I recently got this kit as a started one that was missing pieces. I was able to go thru my spares and find all I needed except the following: A10 (intake-see picture) MA #1,2,7,9,10 (PE fret-see picture) I'll be happy to take them used, painted, whatever you got and will pay for your time and parts. Thanks a bunch! Later, Lee
  9. The F-14 Tomcat and the F-15 dominated the skies for an extended period of time. There are a lot of Aircraft to build, but there is something very special about fabricating a Custom Aircraft Model made from your bare hands. Scratch built Airplane Models are a fading skillset that we should continue to preserve. This particular model was built by a Model company called modelworks One of the challenging components of Fabricating models is maintaining the proportions, slope and contours. It take a trained eye to build a model the right way. Has anybody build a large Fighter Jet or Private Let lately?
  10. Some details of new PE set are installed on model. The set made of 0.05mm thick stainless steel and has many optional parts. 11. Hey all, Looking for Fightertown Decals VF-213 "Last Roar" in 1/48...anyone have one out there at a fair price?
  12. Hi all! Here is my latest completed project, the Hasegawa F-14A Tomcat in NSAWC "Flanker" adversary scheme, NAS Fallon 1999. As you know, this is the notorious Hasegawa Tomcat. This is my second one, and I learned quite a bit from my first try. I deviated from the directions in three key places: 1. Intake Assembly 2. Fuselage Join 3. Beaver Tail Attachment Basically what I did was to install the intake trunking BEFORE putting the inner ducting in. This allowed me to get a fantastic join of the intake trunking, which gave me fits last time. For the fuselage join, I cut out the rear bulkhead of the forward fuselage, and attached the completed forward fuselage to only the upper portion of the rear fusleage pancake. Also gave me a much better fit than last time. Third, attach the upper portion of the beaver tail to the upper portion of the fuselage pancake, and attach the lower beaver tail to the lower fuselage pancake. This was a HUGE improvement from the last time. The fit was almost perfect doing it this way. I used quite a mix of paints on this. Both grays are Gunze Aqueous, the light blue and white are Mr Paint, and the dark blue is Model Master. I am a bit disappointed as I used too light of a light blue, but I think it still looks pretty cool. Just a bit too light. :-) Decals are Fightertown Decals, and they are really fantastic. The fact that this aircraft is devoid of almost all stencils was a nice plus. LOL Other aftermarket additions are the Verlinden Cockpit Set, Steel Beach Naca Vent, and Master Pitot, and the Hasegawa Weapons Sets C and D for the probe and sidewinder. Anyway, I hope you like! Kit: 1/48 Hasegawa F-14A Tomcat PT46 Decals: Fightertown Decals "Top Gun, Best of the Best" 48077 Aftermarket: Master Model Pitot, Verlinden Cockpit Set, Steel Beach NACA Vent, Hasegawa Weapons Set C and D Paints: Gunze Mr. Surfacer Black 1500 (primer base), Tamiya Liquid White Primer (for marble coat), Gunze Aqueous FS 36375 Light Ghost Gray, and FS 36320 Dark Ghost Gray , Mr Paint FS 35450 Air Superiority Blue and FS 17875 Insignia White, ModelMaster FS 35109 Aggressor Blue, Tamiya Rubber Black, Clear Red, Clear Green, Clear Yellow, and Smoke, and Alclad II Gloss Black Primer, Hot Metal Violet, Hot Metal Blue, Airframe Aluminum, and Burnt Iron. Future Gloss coat for decals and Future+Tamiya XF-21 Flat Base 6:1 ratio for final matte coat. Mig Ammo Deep Gray panel wash.
  13. I'm doing Vandy One from VX-4 using the Fightertown Decals sheet #48058 for Test/Eval/Adversary. The diagrams are not complete for the black F-14s, and I need to know if the A-model in particular had NO STEP and other stencils on the upper surfaces. I haven't found a photo yet, so I'm hoping someone here knows the answer. Thanks!
  14. Looking for 1/32 accessories for my tamiya tomcat. Specifically the G-factor landing gear set and a tarps pod.
  15. I was browsing the web and found this image of the VF-84 on Cloud9 (http://www.cloud9photography.us/keyword/VF84 pictures / i-hcLfMLT / A). I've never seen a Jolly with a tan and white nose. The edge of the glass is gray, not black. I did not find any other image with that white stripe on the nose. And I would like to know BuNo of this bird! Can someone help me?
  16. I need your help. I remember a thread about the three different styles of Tomcat main wheels but I cannot locate it despite having searched through all F-14 threads since last fall. Last weekend I tried modifying a set of Tamiya main wheels with half of the white metal hubs from a Hasegawa F-14, but now I have my doubts as to whether or not I used the correct wheel hubs. Can someone help me out here? Thanks in advance, Jens
  17. I am assembling this bird on 1/144, using Rose-ridge decals. I need a help: what are the colors of this Tomcat?
  18. Hey everyone I have an original Revell (not the nicer/better Reboxed Monogram) F-14 Tomcat and its missing a Radome I actually tried to fit some other Radomes on it from other manufacturers, no luck.. The academy might work and since Steel Beach makes a resin replacement for the Academy Tomcat nose, I thought someone may have a spare original lying around they could help me with PM if you can help, will pay (but not much, this kit sucks) :) Thank you for looking
  19. Hello folks, quick q I have eduard's danger zone but it's intended to be finished as a VF-1 bird, so what are my options for the chin pod? timeframe / era is not specific as long as it's a wolfpack. any additional details re gun vents and boat tail would be welcome too. TIAA, Murad
  20. Hello all, revell's 1/72 F-14D as vf-101 Grim Reapers 164. kit is built oob, enjoy
  21. Now available! http://www.zactomodels.com/ These are the pylons I made for my Trump Intake correction that I've adapted to fit the Tamiya kit. You will need to drill locator holes and remove the existing locator pins on the intake parts. Tamiya got these in the wrong location.
