TomcatFanatic123
Well, how many was it? I was uber-busy tonight...easily over 200 kids, and I was pleased to see most of them were elementary school age. Epic win costume of the night: the "Old Fart". An "old person" mask (wrinkly face, reading glasses on the bridge of the nose, etc.), with a shirt that says "Retired and Loving It", hat that says "I Love Bingo", high-water pants pulled up past the belly button with suspenders on, and plaid socks. I busted up laughing at that one...simple, yet original ... Edited November 1, 2010 by TomcatFanatic123
J.C. Bahr
We usually average around 120, but I'd doubt we broke 80 tonight. Seems like our numbers have been in steady decline the past few years. Might've had something to do with tomorrow morning being a school day though. My neighbors 8-year-old son dressed as the Mad Hatter from the most recent "Alice..." and had he been an adult, one would've thought he totally channeled Johnny Depp! His mom did his make-up... orange hair, eye-brows and everything! Said they got the costume on-line somewhere. We had about 9-10 households gather at our place for pot-luck dinner and nice fire in the fire-pit on the drive-way to hand out candy and turned out to be a great evening. Alvis 3.1
42. It's been getting lower every year here, and this year, the costumes were pretty lame. Al P.
zeus60
More than I had last year. Maybe 30-40 total. That's the most it has been in a while.
HOLMES
NONE this year....Must be that the parents are becoming ultra cautious...Shame really... I look forward to the masks and costumes ...
phantom
60 ish. Best ever at this new house. Very few older kids, lots of near babies. Winner was the little 2 year old girl dressed as an astronaut.
Bonehammer73
I had three girls in 'goth' makeup, and was surprised that someone actually came. Kids don't do the rounds on Halloween in these places, but rather on Mardi Gras/Pancake Day. Couldn't allow them inside as my daughter was asleep on the sofa.
gonzalo
I really didn't count but it wasn't many. I was really disappointed as my wife and I really enjoy giving out candy. We set up a small table and different Halloween things like lights and sounds. Our children are grown up now. We use to love going trick or treating with them but they really aren't interested in doing that anymore. So, this is how we celebrate the day. As far as costumes one stood out. It was a middle school child that was riding an ostrich. His legs where the birds legs while fake ones hung on the side. It was very funny. I wish I had a picture. What surprised me was how many kids just came up to us and just wanted candy without saying anything. They just stuck out a bag and expected candy. Two kids in particular just stood there and I said to them, well what do you have to say? They replied, we are to old to say trick or treat! I was flabbergasted! Edgar
None at all, thankfully (yes, I know, I'm a miserable old sod, but, here, there are laws against demanding money with menaces.) When you get past 65, overturned wheelie bins, and filth hurled at the doors and windows, loses whatever charm it might have had, and I still vividly remember an elderly neighbour, in tears because some teenagers had used the night as an excuse to destroy his garden, which had been his pride and joy. I'll happily laugh and joke with children, any day of the year, but not while under threat. Edgar
Steve N
Something over 300. Mandie got called in to work, so I was on candy detail this year. No really innovative or original costumes. We live in a modest but decent neighborhood, and get a lot of traffic from the..shall we say "less affluent" parts of town. A number of the kids didn't even make a pretense at a costume. One thing that bugged me was the age of many of the trick-or-treaters. Seems to me there should be some basic rules of age etiquette. If you could sing base in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, or you're tall enough to play pro basketball, you're too old to be trick-or-treating. Likewise, if you wear a 38DD bra, or or had to get a sitter so you could go trick-or-treating, you're too danged old! The worst offender I saw was a "kid" dressed as superman..he was at least six feet tall, and had a freakin' BEARD (a real one..not cosmetic!) C'mon people..Trick-or-Treating supposed to be for the kiddies! Once you hit puberty, it's time to give it up. It may not be nice, but after awhile I was deliberately saving the "good" candy for the young 'uns, and giving the "second tier" stuff to the teenagers (and I suspect a few 20-somethings.) <Old Fart Halloween Rant Mode Off> As for wanton destruction, I grew up in a small farm town. While we made a mess on Halloween, we always stopped short of any actual property damage. The next morning there would be some soaped windows, trees covered in toilet paper, and lots of smashed pumpkins and other produce in the streets, but a quick bit of cleanup or a good rain was all that was needed. I live in the suburbs of a small city now, and fortunately most of the kids are only out for the candy, and really have no interest in any "extracurricular activities." Most were also escorted by parents, which keeps the mischief to a minumum. One kid jokingly knocked over one of our (cheap plastic) yard lights as he left (we both chuckled) but I ended up taking them down anyway because kids kept tripping over them. GreyGhost
NONE this year....Must be that the parents are becoming ultra cautious...Shame really...I look forward to the masks and costumes ... ;) Same here, Zippo ! Although our town does Trick or Treating on Saturday Nights when Halloween falls on a Sunday ... Still ... None ... The neighborhood was rather quiet ... Gregg
IrishGreek
We had quite a few, probably close to 100. Had one interesting case though. We were getting more kids than we expected, and my wife told 2 little boys: "only one each okay, so all the kids can get some" and they do exactly as asked. Then the mother (who was dressed up too) walks up and takes 2 or 3 out of the bowl before my wife knows what is happening. Great example for the kids mom. Still overall was a great time and had some of my kids friends over and after the Trick or Treating night watched a Halloween movie for the finale.
SBARC
We had a variety of older kids....but many of them are kids I know around the neighbourhood and they all were wearing costumes.........so I'm more than happy when they come by trick or treating.......it's good to see their costumes and have a laugh with them as we give them candy. I also noticed a variety of kids from outside our neighbourhood........our neighbourhood is away from main roads so there is no traffic and it is particularly safe and secure.......so it is a good place to go on Halloween. Plus plenty of parents were out escorting the younger kids which kept the streets safe and peaceful. My kids gave my wife and I all the candy they didn't like.....which was about half their candy. It's all good candy my wife and I would have been thrilled to have when we did the Trick or Treating thing many years ago. I always give a piece of candy to the parents as well........a bit of candy helps to keep the parents motivated as they do the rounds with the younger kids and keep the streets safe. Jennings
Zero. Not a single one. And I live in the middle of town in a city of almost 300,000 people. Go figure.
mandie
I hate being on call anyway, but to miss tricks or treats is downright criminal. After all Halloween is my holiday. I was trick or treating the elderly with such goodies as Xanax, Ativan and Vicodin. But Steve saved me a box of milk duds and reeces pieces. Mandie
AX 365
I was surprised at the number of kids that didn't show up. Last year we had 200 plus and ran out of goodies in very short order. This year we had maybe 60, tops. There was still a good size bowl of stuff left at about 8:15 when a group of older kids showed up. They each got a good mitt full of candy and left quite happy. Best outfit of the night was a kid dressed up as a guitar from the Guitar Hero franchise. Wish I'd taken a picture. It was really well done.
flyfort17
I had so few last year I didn't even bother handing out candy this year. I turned off all the lights and watched "The walking dead" on AMC. A very good show.

Philp
4 on Saturday (official Trick or Treat day in Utah) and 3 on Sunday. Course, my daughter stopped by with her friends before they headed off to another house so they each got a handfull. Best costume I heard of but didn't see was one of my co workers daughters and her friend. They made sweatshirts that said Ceilings #1 and the same on some foam fingers (the kind from sporting events). So what were they? Ceiling fans.
rm20886
I had about 40 kids this year. Low compared to past years. My daughter was dressed as a little witch. Way to cute!
kap64
Had about 50, about normal. Lot's of witches, a blue man group, one with cereal boxes all over as a "Cereal killer".
Buck
400, maybe 500... Lots of "Trick or Treat'rs" as usual, certainly up from last year (seems like a lot more high school aged kids this year). Think word's getting out about our area! We and our cul-de-sac neighbors all teamed up to created a centralized distro point, probably had a good $300 in candy between us... All gone. Was pretty fun actually, had a little potluck dinner going on as well. No real cool costumes really, pretty much all store bought stuff. Lot's of Ironman & Dinosaurs walking around :D Ahui hou Mark
Wolfgun33
Not sure how many we had. I know we had a lot though, almost ran out of candy. It was our first halloween in the new house. My wife lovees decorating for the holidays and more than a few kids commented on how cool the decorations were.
