Hey Mike
Caracal makes a sheet for the 389th.

The major markings have not changed since this sheet came out. Here is 87-0169 at Beale a few weeks ago. Note that these jets have been upgraded to the -229 engines, and have the additional air scoops along the fuselage. Also, some history about this particular aircraft. It was featured on Twobobs' Mountain Home Avengers sheet as well. Although it was flying with the 391st Bold Tigers at the time, it was deployed and participated in the first retaliatory strikes into Af
LDM,
Thanks for the great response and images! much appreciated!
I should have looked at the sheets before posting; I went back and looked at the decal sheets:
The Twobobs 48-286 and Furball sheet 48-093 are for the 494th FS for May, 2024.
The Furball sheet 48-088 depicts 366th FS aircraft from April 24, 2024.
So if the article is for contemporary operations for the APKWS load, then you're right, these sheets won't be accurate for the load.
Hopefully maybe we can see a sheet featuring the 389th with this unique configurati
The F-15E in that TheAviationist article appears to be from the Mountain Home-based 389th Fighter Squadron. You can see the serial on the nose gear door and just make out the tail fin flashes. Pics of 87-0210 from JetPhotos or Airfighters corroborate that serial with that squadron. I haven't found any other pics of that jet from in theater but DVIDS does have a few of 87-0183 and 88-1667 from the same squadron from "undisclosed locations" in CENTCOM with drone kill markings.
The original article implies that the APKWS load out is relatively new, while t
Any thought about what markings these aircraft may have had? Furball and TwoBobs decals both came out with 1/48th decals for F--15E 'Drone Killer's from both Lakenheath and Seymour Johnson...maybe correct?....or different operations/time frame?
Appreciate everyone's thoughts. Unique loadout for the F-15E
Thanks,
Mike
Sort of a where were they then...
I shot this when I was flying into Edwards. Put the stick in my knees and shot out the door of the OH-58A I was flying in. When I leaned I was going to fly into Edwards, I pulled the doors just to be ready.
The birds were used for the cruise missile tests in the late 70's early 80's. they were chase birds. Caracal makes the markings for 319, but with black stencils. As I understand it, one of them was a Thunderbird AC.
Yes, CD72135 is delayed a bit because it now will be a scaled down version of CD48238. I will try to release it in the October/November timeframe. Too many scale-up/down opportunities, too little time.
I was thinking for wheel/tires, a resin set for a F-14. In 1/48 they seem similar in size. For the ejection seats, late Hornet ones. McDD was involved in the design with GD so There might have been some cross engineering parts.
The latest installment on F-86 ejection seats, F-86D/K/L/H has been published. The follow-on and final instalment will cover the NATO Martin-Baker seats and a bit on the last combat for Sabre's.
